A large percentage of the population have a disability of one sort or another. The hydrotherapy pool has become an essential part of rehabilitation and convalescence for such persons. It is used for remedial treatments following operations or accidents and as a method of interaction and play some.
Various designs provide for differing specialised groups of disability, but generally speaking and because of the normally higher temperatures involved, this type of pool suffers from greater pollution risks than a conventional or non hydrotherapy pool.
The features of a hydrotherapy pool are very much the same as for a conventional pool except for the temperature and the turnover or speed that the water is pumped from the pool for treatment.
The higher temperatures provide ideal conditions for bacteria to thrive so removal of the water rapidly for chlorination and pH correction is essential.
There are probably areas within the pool tank where individuals can receive personal attention and / or instruction. It is most likely that other equipment such as hand rails on the pool bottom, hoists and access ramps seated water jet areas and counter currents will all be available. All of these extraordinary elements of design can make flow patterns difficult to manage.
Water is taken away from the pool via the surface draw off system and the pool bottom. These design factors should ensure that all of the debris that floats or hangs around the surface or on the pool floor is removed quickly from the bathers immediate environment.
What happens to the water between leaving and returning to the pool tank?
Well as stated above it is simply very similar to the conventional pool, but with different requirements, such as shorter periods required between bacteriological tests, shorter periods between filter and sand inspections, the ability to have rapid chlorine demands over short periods of time.
