Calcium Hypochlorite
Calcium hypochlorite is a popular pool water sanitiser which can be used in both hard and soft water areas. In hard water areas the additional calcium causes no operational problems provided that normal accepted pool parameters are adhered to. In soft waters it brings useful calcium to the pool water each time that chlorine in dosed.

> Personal protective clothing should be worn when handling cal hypo
> Storage should be off the floor in a cool, dry, clean, well ventilated, secure storage area
> Day tanks used for dosing must be contained within a bund sized at
110% of tank volume
> Calcium hypochlorite is incompatible with and should not be confused
with dichlor granules
> hth is the most well known brand of calcium hypochlorite

FEATURES
> Dry granules or tablets
> 68% available chlorine
> Available in 10kg 25kg 40 kg or 45 kg re-cyclable plastic drums
> 2 year shelf life
> Solubility and dust levels vary among manufacturer

DOSING
Although there are several dedicated calcium hypochlorite feeders available on the market, the most common method of dosing was via pump and tank. This is now being superseded by the easiflo range and similar units (See Feeders) The pump and tank system consists of:
Tablet dosing

Granular dosing system
hth granular dosing system

> 100 to 500 litre day tank
> 68% available chlorine
> Suitably sized bund tank
> A continuously rated electric agitator
> A dosing pump suitable for handling calcium
hypochlorite (C series LMI, Jesco Minidos,
v Memdos or Yamada air pump
> A rod injector

Dosing line runs should be sheathed, clearly marked showing flow directions and stating the name of the product contained within them they should be kept as short as is practical, with few bends.

Solution is mixed up in the tank using mains water. Normal solution strength is one scoop (700g) per 20 litres of water. This solution should ideally be as weak as is practical for the dosing pump to cope with

RECOMMENDED WATER CONDITIONS
> ph 7.3 – 7.5
> Alkalinity 80 – 120 mg/l as CaCO3
> Calcium hardness above 250 mg/l as CaCO3
> TDS not more than 1,000 mg/l above the
TDS level of the supply water
